Homes & Habitats Week 🏡🐾
This week, we’re focusing on homes and habitats! I think this is such a great theme for introducing simple, routine chores and helping kids begin to understand what it takes to care for a home.
From a young age, I want my kids to see that taking care of our home is something we all contribute to. I don’t plan on rewarding them for helping with the basic responsibilities of everyday life. Of course, what they help with will always be age-appropriate, but I want chores to feel like a normal part of being part of a family rather than something they only do when there’s a reward involved.
I also don’t want our chores to be gender-specific. Everyone in our family can learn how to cook, clean, do laundry, take care of a home, and contribute to the household. We’re raising a generation to break cycles around here!
To keep things fun and connected to our theme, we’ll also be learning about animal habitats. The kids will be exploring where different animals live and what they need in their environments. Then, they’ll get to put what they’ve learned into practice with their first project of the school year: a shoebox animal habitat!
I can’t wait to see what they come up with and, as always, I’m excited to see where their interests take us throughout the week.
Here’s to another week of learning, growing, and figuring out what works for our family! 🏡🐾
